Doing Things The Right Way

A Few Tips For Choosing The Right Options For Your Lawn Mower

Unfortunately, if you allow your grass to grow too high, it will start to bend from the weight. Once this occurs, water or moisture can be trapped, providing the perfect breeding ground for disease and fungus. In addition, the longer blades will prevent sunlight from reaching anything under them, causing the grass to die. This means you need to cut it regularly. Since you are not going to do this with scissors, you need a lawnmower. If your yard is less than ½ an acre, a push mower will do. To help you make the task as easy as possible, there are some options you should look for when buying the mower.

Fuel

You can choose between a gas mower, an electric one with a cord, or a cordless electric model. A gas mower is the most common; however, you will need to make sure you always have gas on hand and that it is properly mixed with the right type of oil. It can be frustrating to run out of gas before you have mowed the whole yard. Of course, needing a power cord long enough to reach the whole yard can be frustrating. However, once you purchase the cord, you will never need to worry about having the fuel to get the yard mowed. If you opt for a cordless model, you won't have to worry about a cord stretched across the yard, but you will need to remember to charge the battery the night before you plan on mowing.

Starter

Electric lawn mowers will have a button or "key" to turn to start the unit. If you do not like to pull a cord to start a gas mower, look around for a model that offers a button starter. Some models will have both a button and a cord, so you can choose which way you want to get the unit running. The button is a great option if you want a gas mower but can't use a pull start.

Wheels

If your lawn is uneven or has a lot of obstacles to go around, it would be best to get a mower with back wheels that are larger than the front wheels. This will allow you to maneuver the mower easier. In addition, the front wheels should be on casters, so they turn easier. This will keep you from getting too worn out when mowing the lawn.

Self-Propelled

You may be surprised at how much of a workout you get when mowing. It would be a good idea to go borrow a friend's non-self-propelled mower to do your lawn once. If you are sore the next day, or can't get the whole lawn done, you should consider buying a self-propelled model. While it will still take some work on your part, it won't take as much and you will get the job done quicker and easier.

Don't wait until the lawn is out of control to mow it. The higher the grass, the harder it will be to mow.
